Alternative yarn/fiber

I'm new to spinning, as a matter of fact I have no idea how to do it! I'd love to learn, but my motivation is that I'm really into recycling and I want to reuse/reclaim everything that I own and find. I found this link yesterday and thought that it was amazing:

I'd love to know how to do this, and how to spin things like dryer lint, etc. I've read that just about anything can be spun and used as yarn. I'm sure that most people would say that I shouldn't undertake something so ambitious for my first spinning, and I understand that. I plan to get one of those little hand looms and use that to learn how to spin (finances aren't such that I can just go out and buy a spinning wheel).

So, my question is thus: do any of you spin alternative yarns using unique fibers or things like newspaper or dryer lint? How is it done? Also, do you recommend a website for learning how to spin. something that would have extremely detailed instructions and perhaps video as well...so that I could learn? I was an astro-physics major in college, and I'm a very quick learner, so I'm not intimidated by the challenge at all.

Thank youkindly for your time.
